* Discuss the difference between chronic and acute pain
* Describe three variable that contribute to pain
* Describe three issues to address prior to considering pharmacological management of chronic pain
* Associate a type of medication used for chronic pain with the etiology of the pain


“Substance Abuse Trends in Texas 2009”
Speaker: Jane Maxwell, PhD
* List five sources for data on substance abuse in the US and Texas
* Describe effects of 4 substances and associated risk factors which are emerging in the use of these substances.
* Discuss latest research on education and treatment for 6 drug categories
