Testimonials

My name is Steve and I live in Fort Worth, Texas. I have been employed with my company for over 19 years and love the work that I do. I first got sober in 1983 and remained in recovery for over 24 years. I returned to the throws of the alcoholism eight months ago. The severity of the disease returned rapidly and I quickly became consumed by this monster.

As each day passed, I became unemployable, a true waste of life and on an apparent course of destruction. This destruction knows no boundaries and will attack anyone and anything in it’s way. I had finally come to my end, when simply put, the alcohol stopped working. I was hopeless, completely withdrawn into the darkness of self.

I tried numerous options to get sober, all to no avail. I just could not stop drinking, not even for an hour. The emptiness I felt was destroying me.

I was able to pick myself up and start my search for a Recovery Center that could possibly help me. I first looked in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and found nothing that really addressed my needs. I then ran across the Texas Star Recovery Center and placed a call to get information. From the very first call, I could tell that this center was what I needed. The initial phone conversation not only addressed my questions, it also gave me hope that I could get the help that I needed. The phone conversation was warm, inviting and caring. I knew that this was the place that I needed to be and I made arrangements to arrive the next day.

Upon arrival to the unit, I was met with a warm, professional and caring staff. They explained everything in detail and answered any additional questions that I had. I met with Dr. Loving, the medical director for the unit, within 15 minutes of my arrival. I was extremely impressed with the compassion, warmth and the overall well-being that he had for me and my situation. He spent time just getting to know me and my story. He explained his program to me and again, offered hope. His approach made sense to me and I was very excited to get started. His detox approach was to enable me to get back up on my feet and clear thinking as soon as possible. I met with him each and every day of my stay, all to discuss how the pharma-approach was working for not only detox, but also on a going forward basis. I could not have felt more cared for and I was excited about the overall approach to my recovery.

I firmly believe that Dr. Loving, and his staff, gave me everything that they could to insure my successful recovery. Every person that I came in contact with was superior. I became very close with the support staff due to the warm, caring environment that they create. This program is very successful due to the fact that all of the team members have a common goal, that is to help the patient feel confident that they have every bit of education and the tools needed to be successful in their recovery.

My stay at Texas Star Recovery Center changed my life. Every single person there touched me in their unique way. Each person offered their love, caring attitude, their professional education and support, along with a warm smile each and every day. I will always be ever grateful for what they did for me. I walked out the door more hopeful, confident and ready to take my recovery as the most important item in my life.

I sought help from Texas Star Recovery after hitting my absolute rock bottom. All attempts to deal with my decade-long addiction to prescription medications on my own had failed and I was finally able to get the outside help I so desperately needed. The staff at Texas Star were caring, non-judgmental and helpful from the first contact by phone through to today – treatment did not end after being discharged from the in-patient detox and rehab program in Austin. They gave me hope for a normal life after many years of seeing no good end to the cycle of addiction and severe withdrawal symptoms I was suffering so intensely from.

The professional staff at Texas Star worked with me through the most intense stages of recovery and continue to provide support and a forum for dealing with the process of positive change in my life. From day one through the detox stage, they helped me medically, spiritually and emotionally deal with the process in a healthier and more manageable way than I had ever experienced prior. I was able to regain the clarity that had been muted for so long as well as the feelings of hope and happiness that had been missing from my life due to the chemical dependency.

The treatment center at Texas Star is comfortable and safe, helping keep the focus on the recovery process. I was surrounded by fellow patients, all in the same bad place I had found myself in, all seeking the help we so desperately needed. Many of the people I went through the program with are still my best friends – we meet weekly for a 12 step meeting and dinner and are always available to each other 24/7 to talk each other through any problems. I now find myself with the support network and group of great friends I realize had been missing in my life, primarily because I had alienated those that loved and cared for me during the years of addiction.

I’m only 5 months clean and sober but many of the promises discussed in Step 9 of the Big Book are already coming true in my life. I can honestly say that I am emotionally healthier than I was even before starting my drug use. Texas Star helped me recognize ways I dealt with different feelings and problems in life and taught me better ways of looking at and dealing with them. I never thought I would be able to say it but I truly am “a grateful recovering addict” because I am far healthier and happier than I ever have been and finally have sustainable and productive ways of dealing with the anxiety, depression and stress that comes from everyday life.
